Traditional Russian Folk Art: The Firebird in Russian Culture

Join us on Thursday, November 17th at 4:00 PM for a storytelling and hands-on workshop presented by Russian Artist Marina Forbes.
The Firebird is a magical winged bird of light that appears in many Russian legends and fairy tales. A single tail feather from the Firebird can light up an entire room. Capturing and imprisoning its magical power is a common theme throughout Russian folklore and folk art. This unique cultural program is designed for adults, teens, and families with children 6 and older. After an illustrated storytelling presentation there will be an optional hands-on workshop where participants can paint an authentic Russian wooden firebird whistle. Throughout the workshop there will be traditional Russian music along with a demonstration of a few steps from a traditional Russian "Firebird Dance."

There is a materials fee of $13 or $15 for anyone participating in the whistle painting workshop. The fee covers the cost of the wooden whistle and the paints used in the workshop.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Fiske Free Library.
