The Big Read: New Hampshire Reads "To Kill a Mockingbird"

The Fiske Free Library is joining with libraries and schools throughout the state to support The Big Read: New Hampshire Reads "To Kill a Mockingbird". The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to revitalize the role of literary reading in American popular culture. The goal of The Big Read is to bring communities together to read, discuss, and celebrate books and writers from American and world literature.

Sponsored by the Center for the Book at the New Hampshire State Library, this year's New Hampshire Big Read features Nelle Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize winning book, To Kill a Mockingbird. Lee's novel, which is based on her childhood in 1930s Monroeville, Alabama, was published in 1960 and spent eighty-eight weeks on best seller lists. In 1961 To Kill a Mockingbird won the Pulitzer Prize and was made into an Academy Award winning movie in 1962.

Stop by the library on Monday, March 1st between 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM as we kickoff our month long celebration of this classic work of American literature. Copies of To Kill a Mockingbird will be available along with study guides, an audio guide, and bibliographies for further study. Refreshments will also be served. Later this month we will be hosting a book discussion, so pick up a copy and start reading!
