Classic Authors Series: Agatha Christie
Helene Lang, Montpelier, Vermont will appear as the classic author Agatha Christie on Thursday, May 14 at 7pm at the Trinity Episcopal Church Parish Hall at 120 Broad Street, Claremont. This is the third program in the living history series presented by the Friends of the Fiske Free Library and the Claremont Historical Society. Author of over eighty mysteries, Christie has been called the best-selling author of all time. With translations in over 45 languages and over two billion books sold worldwide, Christie's writing career spanned more than half a century,. She wrote eighty novels and short story collections and over a dozen plays, including The Mousetrap, which is now the longest running play in theatrical history.
In this living history performance, Agatha Christie tells how a typewriter in Torquay spawned over 80 mysteries and how she created the characters of Miss Jane Marple and Hercule Poirot. Learn about her life and walk in her footsteps in England. Discover why she was so knowledgable about the poisons she used in her stories, what influences in her life informed the creation of her famous leading detectives, some personal information about her family, and why she went to Yorkshire under an assumed name.
