Hail to the Chiefs: John Quincy Adams


The last program in our presidential series "Hail to the Chiefs" will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd at 7:00 pm in the Gilmore Room. Jim Cooke of Quincy, Massachusetts will present "John Quincy Adams, A Spirit Unconquerable!" Cooke will portray Adams, our sixth president, in the last ten years of his long life. He will speak about his fight against the infamous "gag rule" devised by slave masters to curb congressional discussion of slavery and his defense of the Africans who had fought for their freedom on the slave ship Amistad.
